In case you live in the Edmonton area and haven't come across it yet, check out Magic 99 (99.3 FM). They do the jazz/blues/pop thing.

Some of it sounds a little too close to elevator music for my taste, but they play Louis, Ella, Ray Charles, Sarah McLachlan, and Micheal Buble. There are others, of course, but these are the most important ones in my eyes...or ears I guess.

All in all, it makes me happy and isn't that what really counts?

We just listened to a Ray Charles and Willie Nelson compolation. Very good and very odd. It was followed by Ella's Fine Romance. Now someone's singing Too Darn Hot, but it's all slow and jazzy.

Thank you so much for telling me! We had a station like that in Toronto and I listened to it all the time. Then they got rid of it - I was so mad. I'm looking forward to listening to Magic99.

We discovered it, and it is our new radio station in the car.

They were playing Billie Holiday this morning... ahhhhhhhh!

My normal version of too darn hot is Mel Torme's.

Mel Torme forever! *holds lighter*

I have also discovered the splendor of Magic 99 (the name really is quite unfortunate). I basically spend my car time flipping between that, Team 1260, and Sonic. It's an interesting blend.

BB King on the radio, baby! that's all sweet.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it in my car - when I do the "seek" thing, it just skips right over 99.3. I'm PEEVED!

For God's sake, it's called manual tuning! Escape technology's grip!
You're stuck in the Matrix...of jazz-free radio!

Actually, today at lunch they were playing George Michael's version of 'Roxanne'. Pretty bad.

MY RADIO DOES NOT HAVE MANUAL TUNING!

By the way, it actually worked today Yay! - I heard a neat version of "No More I Love Yous". I'm so happy for a new station.

I think the station hates me. I always tune in halfway through something good, and am then exposed to some reprehensibly bad cover song.

I like Colin James's cover of Mary-Anne.

I also like the cover of I've Just Seen a Face.

Y'know, that might be the dumbest song title ever. I mean, look at it! "I've just seen a face." Really, wow...shocking.

I don't know, there are quite a few worse song-names:

"In a New York Minute" - Don Henley
"C'est la Vie" - Robbie Neville
"Don't Get Mad, Get Even" - Aerosmith
"No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem" - Some crappy country band

In the end, it's just a title. At least it's not based on some crappy cliche.

Oh, there are dumber titles. But "I've just seen a face." is so pointlessly obvious, it's silly. I mean, what other ditties does the guy have?

"I Just Made Some Tea."? Perhaps, "I Just Heard A Noise."

An example of what this station usually gives me. On the way home yesterday, they were playing Marvin Gaye's "Mercy Mercy Me". Cool. they then followed it up with Michael McDonald's cover of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Why is there apparently a market for a former Doobie Brother to whitefy Motown classics in a vanilla manner?
